Health Tip: Eating After Weight-Loss Surgery

(HealthDay News) - It's crucial to eat right after you've had bariatric or other types of weight-loss surgery.

The MetroHealth System offers these suggestions:

Because your stomach is smaller, eat small meals regularly throughout the day instead of a few large meals. Eat slowly and chew thoroughly -- it may take about an hour to eat your meals. About 30 minutes after meals, drink fluids in small sips -- do not drink beverages with meals. Avoid eating sweets.

Suicides up after weight-loss surgery

Among people who have undergone so-called bariatric surgery for obesity, death rates are higher than seen among other people of the same age, new research shows. In particular, deaths due to suicide and coronary heart disease are higher than might be expected normally. The study looked at data for all Pennsylvania residents who underwent a bariatric operation such as stomach stapling or gastric bypass between 1995 and 2004. Deaths in these patients were compared with those seen in the general population. A total of 440 deaths were noted after 16 683 weight-loss procedures during the study period, Dr. Lewis H. Kuller, from the University of Pittsburgh, and colleagues report. Male gender and advancing age were both associated with increased death rates, according to the team's report in the Archives of Surgery.

Plastic Surgeon Discusses West's Death

LOS ANGELES -- The doctor who operated on Kanye West's mother said he thinks he knows why she died, but he won't get specific until after the completion of the coroner's investigation.

Dr. Jan Adams said in Tuesday's Los Angeles Times that he believes he knows "exactly what happened" to Donda West. Speaking about similar cases, he said she could have died of a heart attack, pulmonary embolism or accidental overdose of painkillers prescribed after the surgery.

The hip-hop star's mother died in a Los Angeles-area hospital Nov. 10, the day after Adams performed a breast reduction, tummy tuck and liposuction on her.

The coroner said early indications suggest the 58-year-old died from surgical complications. .

Ron Paul 2008(R)

[edit] Nonintervention, not isolationism Paul upholds a foreign policy of nonintervention.[7] This policy avoids entangling alliances with other nations, in the tradition of Washington, Jefferson, and Madison,[8] in order to avoid being drawn into wars not related to defense. He believes that war must be fought only to protect citizens, it must be declared by the U.S. Congress, and it must be concluded when the victory is complete as planned: "The American public deserves clear goals and a definite exit strategy in Iraq."[9] He has also said that rather than closing U.S. military bases, the government should build fewer bases internationally and keep as many U.S. bases open as possible.[10] Paul denies being an isolationist: he advocates "conducting open trade, travel, communication, and diplomacy with other nations".[11]

Iraq Paul objected to and voted against the Iraq War Resolution,[12][13] and continues to oppose U.S.

Injections Don't Deliver On Promises To Melt Fat

Can a series of injections help dissolve away your extra fat? That's what some medical clinics claim. With a hidden camera we went to two medical clinics in Southern California to check out their promises to melt inches off your body with a series of injections. But we discovered hidden dangers. "I look like I'm 4 months pregnant and I didn't look like that before. It all moved to the middle."This woman we'll call Karen doesn't want to appear on camera. She's too embarrassed after paying thousands of dollars for LipoZap. The company claims a painless series of shots can zap inches off your body by breaking up the fat cells. But her bruises are still vivid seven months after she had the injections."I burned and itched for two and a half hours that night. I almost thought I was going to have to go to the emergency room."For Karen, not only didn't it work, "I didn't lose one pound from it.

Wise Regional Health System now performing heart surgeries

Since opening the doors on its new hospital in August 2006, Wise Regional Health System has added state-of-the-art health care in the areas of cardiovascular services, bariatric surgery and medical oncology.

"In October 2007 we did our first open heart surgery," said heart doctor Jeff Gladden. "We have since completed this surgery on four patients and all have been successful. These surgeries are now being done in your backyard. It's pretty amazing."

Gladden, who has practiced medicine in Wise County and throughout North Texas since 1988, spearheaded the opening of the Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano. The hospital is part of the Baylor Health Care System. Despite the introduction of open heart surgery to the Decatur hospital, he said more complex cases would still require transport to the Heart Hospital in Plano.
